Flat DDR5 prints hide an allocation regime already tightening around Samsung and SK Hynix — the customer roster is the tell, not the tape.
Two 36氪 datapoints from this week collided at the same node: the FT reported Apple lobbying the White House to greenlight DRAM sourcing from Pentagon-blacklisted CXMT[1], while Bloomberg's Gurman said Apple will skip the M6 Pro/Max entirely as a memory squeeze reshapes its 2026 silicon roadmap[2]. Both point at the same constraint — Apple can no longer plan its product cadence around commercially available DRAM alone. DDR5 RDIMM 32GB spot held flat at $1,275 on 2026-06-28[3], and DDR5 16Gb 4800/5600 sat at $46.73[4], but the spot tape is the wrong tape to watch. The scarcity is showing up in customer behavior, not the trailing spot print.
Korean May 2026 semiconductor exports (HS8542) hit $29.43B, up 154.29% YoY[5] — a print that would normally soften a DRAM squeeze narrative, but the mix matters more than the headline. The 403Y003 mobile/mainstream DRAM index ran at 220.23, up 64.66% YoY[6], while server-DRAM proxy 403Y002 stayed at 205.63, up only 3.54% YoY[7]. That divergence maps directly onto the CXMT story: hyperscalers are competing with Apple for the same qualified capacity at Samsung Electronics (005930) and SK Hynix (000660), and the pricing pressure is migrating up the stack. Flat spot conceals a tightening HBM/server allocation.
The supply-chain neighborhood is corroborating. Micron (MU) reported 122.1-day DSI in 2026-Q3 on $33.3B operating income[8], and NVIDIA (NVDA) sits at 115.1d in Q1-2027 on $53.5B[9] — elevated day-counts but paired with record OP, the signature of allocated inventory rather than distress. Meanwhile Do-Fluoride hiked semi-grade HF 20–30% supplying both TSMC (2330) and Samsung, and Chinese customs data flags a fresh CO2 shortage pushing Samsung and SK Hynix to stockpile. Substrate is the third pinch: Taiwan brokers see ABF shortage hitting 35% by 2028 on agentic-AI CPU demand.
