A Demand Curve Above the Atmosphere

When Elon Musk publicly said Vera Rubin was "the only choice," NVIDIA stock reacted inside the session. This is not a PR loop. It is the first time a fully new demand tier has been stacked on top of terrestrial hyperscalers.
Until now the top of the GPU demand curve was Microsoft, Google, AWS, Meta on the ground, with CoreWeave/Nebius-type GPUaaS on the second rung. This week a low-earth-orbit compute layer got soldered on above them. While Duke Energy's data center pipeline grew 2.7GW since Q4 2025 to hit 7.6GW of secured service, and AWS scouted a 4.5GW gas plant site in Pennsylvania (DCD), compute demand that couldn't find a gigawatt on Earth started leaking into orbit.
The HBM Bottleneck Meets the New Timeline
The complication is that the supply side has no slack to absorb this new tier. - MU / SK Hynix / Samsung: the Rubin Ultra HBM downspec actually protects HBM3E→HBM4 unit ASPs during the transition. Treat DDR5 spot at $51.5 as a leading, not lagging, print.
- AVGO / MRVL: the back end of Anthropic's custom program lands here. The more hyperscalers try to step away from GPUs, the more entrenched the custom-ASIC partners become.
- AMD: five straight quarters of record server CPU, and the stock still sold off after Musk's NVIDIA endorsement. The market hasn't priced in the "only alternative" premium yet — but 2027 CPU tightness doesn't go away because Musk chose Rubin.
One-liner: the week terrestrial gigawatts ran out and GPU demand climbed into orbit. For this thesis to hold, the first Starmind launch has to happen H1 2027 as advertised, and HBM4 has to ramp on schedule. Both are probabilistic. But this week's pricing has already moved in that direction.
